It’s the first of June, can believe that half the year has gone by. It feels like yesterday we were making New Year’s resolutions and planning for the amazing year that is 2017. Hoping that your year is going as planned, if not, you have amazing lessons to reflect on and power your next steps. It is never too late to start or calibrate your plan.
No Time Like the Present
June is a jam-packed month here in South Africa as it marks: the first day of winter, Father’s Month and of course youth month with a specific focus on June 16th which is known locally as Youth Day. June pays tribute to the young leaders who lost their lives during the 1976 uprising in Soweto.
With a bountiful history to look back and learn from, as individuals, we can all pick up key lessons from South Africa. The hardships that life throws at us do not have to be a permanent occurrence. If you start thinking outside of the box and surround yourself with likeminded people you too, can be and are the difference.
We find ourselves constantly conforming to cultures, traditions and beauty standards that were not made for everyone. Like the youth of ‘76 we need to glance at our history, work within our present, make changes that will redefine our future.
Let us break the chains that bind our self-esteem. Let us conquer the narrative that tells us that we are not enough.
Your History Influences but Does Not Equal Your Future.
With every day you need choose to make the right decisions for yourself. This month, take into consideration and acknowledge your history and everything that makes you, you. Learn to accept your current journey and present, ultimately leading to love. Loving yourself, through your history, decisions and current position. Knowing that you are not only enough but you hold the key to your future.
Happy YOUth Month
