I was introduced to City Chic in 2016 for the first time. I came across the brand at the Curve Corner, a Curve Loving event.
Noluthando Nkosi, the founder of the movement invited me and other body conscious women to the event. The Curve Corner is a talk series where you can sit with a group of women who soon grow from strangers to sisters. It’s a platform where women learn, encourage and leave confident in their very own AWESOME.
During the event we discussed personal body image and body politics experiences. It was amazing to see how much we all had in common despite our physical differences.
There were various competitions run throughout the program. I was fortunate enough to win one of the big prizes of the day; a R2 500 shopping voucher at City Chic Sandton.
My In-Store Experience
Upon arrival I was given the best welcome by the lovely ladies in the store. My favourite part was when they were explaining how their sizes worked. Unlike most stores where their small is 28 or even smaller, City Chic has their own size guide. It’s a full on boutique, exclusively plus size store, with sizes starting from extra small (roughly an SA 38)
To my surprise, I am a small! The shopping experience was amazing as I knew what I wanted, my aim was to find an evening dress for my upcoming birthday and bras. I normally struggle to find bras that are not only comfortable but durable too. After trying on quite a few gorgeous dresses, I found the perfect dress that hugs me in all the right place and with the detail to match.
The bras that I tried on are by far the most comfortable bras that I had ever tried on as they gave my breasts an amazing lift and back support.
City Chic is an amazing store that has current fashion trends for Plus Size girls of every size. I cannot wait to do more shopping there.
